“Confidence is having faith in someone. Self-confidence is trusting that you have what it takes to handle whatever happens. You feel sure of yourself and enjoy trying new things, without letting doubts or fears hold you back. When you have confidence in others, you rely on them.”
So this is always a virtue that really allows me to explore… The sentence above says that self-confidence is feeling sure of yourself without letting doubts or fears hold you back. What would I be doing if I wasn’t held back by fear? There is an old saying that graveyards are filled with countless inventions, ideas and dreams. People that went to the grave with their passions because they didn’t know how it fit in the world, or because of their own self doubt or what others might think. I left a 14 year career on a leap of faith and an idea that what I had to share was important and valuable. I don’t know that I ever thought about confidence when I made that decision, however I can see how being confident and trusting allows one to put themselves in front of others in spite of their fears.
It’s been almost two years since I made that leap, I’m not able to say that I have completely found my footing however whenever I’m doing the things I set out to do more of, I feel in alignment with an idea that is bigger than me. There’s a still small voice that whispers (we all have it) and if there were truly trust and faith in it, what might look different?
That to me is the invitation- the invitation within really. To listen and to have the trust, faith and confidence to say yes to whatever is in there attempting to get my attention.
