LESSON 37
THE RIGHT QUESTIONS

In Lesson 37 of the My Agreements with Me for Believers workbook, we are discussing "The Right Questions", this is significant because wherever you are operating from in your thinking and mindset will determine how much of God’s abundance and unlimited supply will flow to and through you.

Asking the Right Questions is all about who you are going to for the answers.

Every question is laced with true or ill willed intention and motivations. Therefore, the true intent and motivation of our questions will determine how much of God's abundance of unlimited supply will flow to and through us. Our thinking and mindset attract our desires and fears out of our heart, which may or may not be in alignment with God's will. Therefore, the kind of questions we ask ourselves and God are critical. Like a good Father, God wants us to turn to Him for any and all questions. Remember there is NO stupid or wrong question.

Tips/Nuggets

Nugget #1:

Ask Lots of Questions

Never be afraid to ask a question. However, learning to ask better questions will get you better answers.

“You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.” - James 4:2

  • Ask God what he wants you to know and to do.

  • Ask God to be open to hear his voice

  • Ask God to reveal what’s robbing you or holding you back from your vision

  • Ask God for wisdom

  • Ask God what your next steps are

Check your “ask.” Make sure that what you are asking lines up with God’s will. Your motives do matter.

Nugget #2:

Questions begin in the heart

Our questions begin in the heart - the center of our being. “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” - Proverbs 4:23

Nugget #3:

Be Childlike

Ask lots of questions! Do NOT let fear hold you back. Put away pride and ego. The quickest way to understanding is through the door of Humility! Think like a child. Children aren’t afraid to ask questions no matter what. Jesus tells us we need to be more childlike. Mind you, not childish, but childlike. - Matthew 18:1-14. When you have faith like a child you put aside self will. Only as adults do we allow our opinions and misconceptions get in the way.

Nugget #4:

Do NOT be afraid

As a “child” of God we are to be confident and trust in our Father (God). “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” - 1 Timothy 1:7

Nugget #5:

Seek Ye First The Kingdom

A child doesn’t tell his/her parents what they are doing, they ASK. Therefore, as a child of God, learn to ask God for permission to be, do and have the desires of your heart. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Going Deeper in the Word

I remember growing up I heard two quotes that stuck with me until this day, the first was by my mother and the other was from Albert Einstein.

My mom always use to say, “slow and right versus fast and wrong.” This would always apply to the decision that I had to make or when I was emotional. Great advice!

Albert Einstein would say, “If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on it, I would use the first 55 minutes determining the proper question to ask.”

You see God wants us to ask because God loves to reveal his strength and wisdom and worth again.

Here are some additional verses to help guide you through this lesson:

When you know your Position you’ll know your Authority

Why this is so important is because when you understand you are the “child” and God is the “father.” You will approach life a lot differently, with more humility and respect. Kids don’t tell their parent, they ask their parent.

James 4:10

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”

Proverbs 21:2

“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart.”

You see a life without Christ is like putting on a Superman cape and thinking you’ll have the same super powers. It’s imitation at best. How many of you can agree when we were growing up that we thought we knew as much or more than our parents did. Yup! We didn’t!!!

Matthew 6:33

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Check-in with Your Motivations and Intent of the Questions you ask.

1 John 4:14-15

“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”

Proverbs 4:23

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”

Trust God’s Answer

Hebrews 11:6

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”

Why You Don’t Get The Answers You Want

James 4:2

“You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.”

The Importance of Humility - Childlike

Philippians 2:3-8

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

You see, God allows, and even desires us to be childlike to ask questions because He knows we sometimes need clarification to understand His will. This reminds me of the disciple Thomas or “Doubting Thomas.” Thomas missed Jesus' resurrected appearance to His disciples and demanded proof from Jesus by asking Jesus what everyone else was thinking, to see proof. He was afraid to ask.

Real Talk

In this lesson we learn about why it’s important to ask the Right Questions. Where in the scriptures does this apply? Here are three stories from the Bible that depict asking the Right Questions and their results.

Solomon and the Two Women fighting over a baby (1 Kings 3:16-28)

King Solomon, known for his wisdom, judged between two women claiming to be the mother of the same child. It’s a story of two mothers. One night one of the women’s baby died and when the other woman was sleeping, she exchanged the dead baby for the baby who was living. And in the morning this dispute was brought before King Solomon between the two woman to sort out whose was whose. King Solomon continued to ask questions until he was stumped by who’s telling the truth. But then God revealed to him wisdom to pretend to cut the baby in half. It was only then that the true mother pleaded to give the baby to the other woman so he may live. By asking insightful questions, King Solomon revealed the true mother's identity and displayed the wisdom granted to him by God.

Jesus and His Disciples (Matthew 16:13-20)

Another biblical account for asking the right questions involves Jesus and his disciples. In Matthew 16:13-20, Jesus asks his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" He then followed up with a more meaningful question, "But what about you? Who do you say I am?" Peter's response, acknowledging Jesus as the Messiah, reflects the significance of asking and understanding the right questions.

Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:1-42)

Then there’s the story of Jesus talking with the Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus engages her in conversation, asking for water, and gradually leads to deeper discussions about spiritual matters. Through this interaction and dialogue, the woman's understanding is transformed, highlighting the power of asking meaningful questions to provoke greater awareness, self-reflection and revelation.
